If You Are Concerned

A Calm, Responsible Next Step

You do not need to investigate a concern yourself. Preserve safety, avoid confronting a suspected abuser, and let trained authorities determine the appropriate response.

1. Address Immediate Danger

Call 911 or local emergency services if someone may be in immediate danger.

2. Follow Reporting Duties

Mandated reporters should follow their organization’s policy and applicable law. Others can contact local child-protection or law-enforcement authorities for guidance.

3. Write Down What You Know

Record factual details you observed or were told, using the person’s own words when possible. Avoid leading questions or trying to obtain proof.
